To the Wolf is the feature-length debut for both Greek filmmaker Christina Koutsospyrou and English filmmaker Aran Hughes. Set in rural Greece, the film follows two shepherding families impacted by the nation’s recent economic difficulties.
The film was shot over two years and this documentary-like approach manifests in the film’s blurred line between fiction and nonfiction, which is combined with tableaux compositions and the hostile tone generated by the town’s inhospitable climate for a unique aesthetic.
Christina and Aran joined us at our studio in OCAD U’s Graduate Gallery to talk about the film, which played in the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival’s City to City programme, focusing on Athens-related film.
This interview was published in December of 2013.
