“It had to be done impressionistically.” – Hitchcock

The video contains a brief excerpt from an interview with Alfred Hitchcock in which the master filmmaker explains the basic conceptualization of montage and how he approached the editing of two different scenes in his 1960 classic Pyscho. He also goes into detail about what is commonly known as the Kuleshov effect with a simple example that he describes as “pure cinematics”. This is excerpted from a longer interviewed conducted by Fletcher Markle for CBC Television series Telescope, which aired on January 2, 1964.
