Evan Calder Williams is an American writer, theorist, and artist. He is the author of Combined and Uneven Apocalypse, which looks at apocalyptic fantasies in culture, including in cinema.
Evan was in Toronto for the Images Festival, where he premiered Violent X, a film created through thousands of digital stills from Italian poliziotteschi films and with a live soundtrack performed by Williams and Taku Unami.
Evan joined us at 401 Richmond to talk about the historical context of the poliziotteschi, the nature of his collaboration with Taku Unami, the Italian “creeping May” and representing a historical trace, Christian Marclay, cyberpunk and Tiqqun.
This interview was released in October of 2014.
