Taken from the archives of Cinephilia and Beyond, Don’t Try This At Home: From Dogma to Dogville is a neat little documentary from Matthias Maass about the integration of Mini DV into independent film, especially during the late ’90s “boom” of DV experimentation. Anthony Dod Mantle (whose innovative wok includes titles as diverse as Julien-Donkey Boy, Antichrist and Slumdog Millionaire), Benedict Neuenfels (The Counterfeiters) and Robby Müller (Paris, Texas, Dead Man) are all featured, offering illuminating insight on the misconceptions of shooting on digital versus 35mm. Thank you very much to Viewster for hosting the film.
