Gabe Klinger’s debut feature film, Double Play: James Benning and Richard Linklater—which, in addition to having its world premiere at Venice, was picked up by FilmBuff for a 2014 release—is likely to earn the young filmmaker, teacher, and critic a lot of deserved attention. This interview/history listen from 2011, conducted for the Navarra documentary festival Punto de Vista, finds the articulate director discussing the Young Filmmakers Rediscovered selections playing at the festival. The films came from New York City, many of which were funded by film enthusiast Rodger Larson through his storefront film club, and were often created by young, immigrant teenagers who had little, if any, experience behind a camera.
