This elegant short film, created by extremely prolific director of photography (1,251 cinematography credits on IMDB!) and frequent D.W. Griffith collaborator G.W. Bitzer, is an “actuality” from 1905 documenting the then-seven-month-old Interborough Rapid Transit system in New York City. Attempting to capture the speedy travel time of the newly constructed subway, Bitzer and his camera rode a train behind the one seen in the movie while a work car carrying light equipment ran parallel providing illumination in the tunnel.
