Lucy Walker is an English documentary filmmaker who has been nominated for the Academy Award for both Best Documentary Feature (Waste Land) and Short (The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom) with the latter winning the award.

Walker’s documentaries span a number of topics, including Amish youth (Devil’s Playground), blind teen mountain climbers (Blindsight), artist Vik Muniz and his collaboration with recycling ‘pickers’ (Waste Land) and nuclear weapons (Countdown to Zero).

The Crash Reel, her latest film and most ambitious yet, charts the snowboarding career of Kevin Pearce and his life following a traumatic brain injury. Lucy presented the film at Hot Docs 2013 and was kind enough to discuss her entire career with us at the University of Toronto’s Victoria College.
