In the spirit of his 2008 film Be Kind Rewind (and the filmmaking meme it inspired), director Michel Gondry took Martin Scorsese‘s 1976 classic Taxi Driver and “sweded” it—that is, he remade the movie with limited resources, homemade effects, and cheap technology. The result is wildly entertaining, and, not surprisingly, actually characteristic of the French auteur’s work, as a number of his films utilize similarly “amateur” techniques in the service of his unique brand of expressionism (loading short colored pencils as bullets into a revolver is a standout touch here).
