Used as part of the Northwest Film Forum’s “One Shot Program” and shot with 16mm film outside of Seattle, this lovely music video for the Damon & Naomi song “Nettles And Ivy” was directed by Argentine auteur Lisandro Alonso. Alonso’s observational and naturalistic video—which focuses on two horses grazing in a field until they slowly disappear from sight—rewards with small pleasures. There are no bravura tracking shots (such as the ones found in his La Libertad and Los Muertos), and his decidedly humble approach to the visuals compliments the dreamy track from the Boston-based duo. It has been some time since we’ve had a full length feature from the director, and a video like this—simplistic, yet wholly engaging—keeps me yearning for new material.
