Last Sunday marked the forty-third birthday of German supermodel Claudia Schiffer, and the video embedded above contains The Sound Of Claudia Schiffer (2000), a short film directed by Nicolas Roeg starring Schiffer herself—who also provides a peculiar voiceover—and featuring an arresting musical soundscape designed by Portishead’s Adrian Utley. Produced for the BBC project “Sound On Film” as a work that had music play a major part in its creation, the piece is a complex montage of bizarre multi-source imagery that Roeg combines with various optical effects and an overarching tone that leans toward the cosmic.
