Pinewood Toronto Studios a modern, purpose-built complex for film and television production and is becoming a destination facility for International producers coming to Toronto. Situated on an 11 acre site in Toronto’s Port Lands, the facility is comprised of 8 stages (including North America’s largest purpose-built soundstage) offering 250,000 square feet of production space. Recent films to use the facility include Pacific Rim, Mama, the Total Recall remake and David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis.
We hung out with Pinewood Toronto Studios President, Blake Steels, on their biggest soundstage: the appropriately named Mega Stage, where the $200 million production,Pacific Rim, had recently wrapped shooting. Blake gave us some insight into this aspect of the Toronto film industry, how the Studio operates and the Studios’ goals for Toronto’s film production environment.
