In 2007, experimental filmmaker Ben Rivers made this funny, loving tribute to the horror film (and all of its tropes), using assorted clips from some of the genre’s most heralded masters (Carpenter, Argento and Hooper, to name just three). The film is a feat of editing, among other things, prolonging the suspense and anticipation preceding the kill in slasher films–characters plodding around in dark spaces, calling out each others names, spooking one another, hearing noises, etc. The film finally culminates, after nearly twenty minutes of build-up, with an exceptional and seamlessly strung together payoff of blood and mayhem.
