This year’s True/False Film Festival hosted a number of panel discussions exploring a variety of topics concerning nonfiction filmmaking, and this particular talk features four writers in conversation about documentary criticism. Leading the panel is Sam Adams, and he is joined by Ela Bittencourt, Adam Nayman, and Nick Pinkerton in what amounts to a fascinating look—from the inside—at how critics respond to documentaries and the ways in which their reception often reflects an unfortunate paradigm of conventional analysis and rigid thought.
