The Seventh Art is a Toronto-based publication featuring in-depth conversations with filmmakers. The website includes interviews with Pedro Costa, Claire Denis, Christopher Doyle, Lisandro Alonso, David Gordon Green, Margarethe von Trotta, Costa-Gavras, Terence Davies, Mia Hansen-Love, Albert Serra, Ben Wheatley, Corneliu Porumboiu, Xavier Dolan, Peter Bodanovich, Guy Maddin, Whit Stillman, Thomas Vinterberg, Barbara Hammer, and many, many more.
The Seventh Art was founded and produced by Christopher Heron, Pavan Moondi and Brian Robertson in 2012 as an independently produced video magazine released once a month with long-form interviews, video essays and industry profiles. ‘Issues’ were released once a month exclusively in the video format. The video magazine transitioned to include live events, including screenings & parties with visiting filmmakers in its Live Directors Series (Whit Stillman, Paul Schrader, Andrew Bujalski, Don McKellar); over 20 hours of live streamed content during the Toronto International Film Festival; a special alternative backstage show at the Canadian Screen Awards; and a monthly, collaborative screening series with our friends at MDFF in 2015.
