Jennifer Chan is a Canadian artist who was selected as the Canadian Spotlight honouree at the 2014 Images Festival. Rated as one of the most notable ‘post-Internet’ artists, her work spans video, performance, installations and animated GIFs, among other new media, and deal with a complex interweaving of subjects, including gender, sexuality, web kitsch and nostalgia, and capital.
Her curated program included eight of works alongside her own selection of “some of the best pieces of non-art.” Jennifer met us at 401 Richmond to discuss non-art, amateur pornography, masculinity, irony, sensuality, and pizza.
Our interview with Jennifer Chan was conducted in April of 2014 and was one of four feature interviews in the twenty-fourth and final monthly issue of The Seventh Art as a “video magazine.” It was released in April 2015 and is part of our 2014 Images Festival coverage, along with interviews with Evan Calder Williams and Mathieu Kleyebe Abonnec.
